Is Botox Best For Wrinkle Removal?
You’ve undoubtedly heard of Botox, but do you now exactly what it is? You might be surprised to learn it’s a type of bacteria. Scientists isolated it several years ago and learned that it has the ability to heal certain problems, including some skin problems, like wrinkles. Although the bacteria it comes from can make a person quite sick, the Botox itself has been used for many years, with a great deal of success.
As far as the evolution of Botox to its wrinkle-removing form goes, it started over a decade ago. Scientists were actually using Botox to treat problems with the muscles in the eyes. They discovered, by accident, that the Botox was also improving the condition of the skin around the eyes. As a result, the company responsible for making the Botox got it approved for wrinkle treatment by the FDA.
If you want to know how Botox works, it’s easy. Botox prevents muscles from becoming tight. Since muscle tightening causes the appearance of wrinkles, the injections of Botox reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
If Botox injections are done in a precise fashion, by a certified professional, they can be very effective. So, there’s no need to worry. The injections are only done to the specific muscle or muscles that are causing the wrinkles to occur.
The issue that many people have with Botox is the time and money involved. It’s not a long-term fix. In fact, the Botox will only work for around four months. It’s not an exact science either. It’s different for all people. So, the process has to be repeated often, if you want to keep your wrinkles from returning.
Among the possible side-effects of Botox injections are droopy eyelids, stomach upsets and headaches. There’s also a very low risk of a paralysis-causing illness, called Botulism. Botulism is extremely unlikely, if the injections are done by a certified professional in the proper way, though.
Follow these tips if you decide to give Botox a go. First of all, Botox should only be done in a doctor’s office or clinic setting by certified professionals. It’s very important both that your doctor is certified and that there is emergency equipment available, in case any problems arise. Also, it’s important not to get Botox injections if you are nursing or pregnant and you should tell your doctor about any medications you are on or medical problems that you have, especially muscle or nerve problems.
As long as you are between the ages of 18 and 65, Botox injections might be a good option for you. However, you should also keep in mind that they’re only approved to treat wrinkles that occur between your eyes. You shouldn’t attempt to have them done on other areas. If you have wrinkles in other areas, you should explore other treatment options, besides Botox. Talk to your doctor about what treatment options are best for you.
